The Tado Smart Thermostat is a uniquely designed product that is easy to use. However, its wired bridge has a limited range. The use of smart heating technologies has successfully penetrated the market. The reason is that they are easier to use, and they help you save a lot of money. Many options are currently available in the market.
The Tado Smart Thermostat, which is the 2nd Generation of its kind, is one of the easiest to use. It can control the heating of the home based on the location of your smartphone. It does this by switching off the heating and turning it on again when you are out and in respectively. Thus, you will not have to make regular adjustments to the thermostat. In addition to that, you will also save a lot of money.
Design
The thermostat utilizes a minimalist design, making it almost invisible as it sits on the wall. The device is switched on via a simple tap on a button at the front. The action will light up the LED display, which displays the set temperature. You can navigate through the settings by the use of up and down buttons. Concerning smart systems, Tado has done an excellent job at designing this thermostat. It is among the best designs I have come across thus far.
Setup and installation
This version allows you to connect it directly to the boiler. In case you lack the cabling to place it where you want it, you can rent or buy a wireless Extension Kit. It costs 2.99 a month to rent it and 79 to purchase. The Kit will be able to communicate wirelessly to with the thermostat. The Extension Kit is a must if you do not own a combi boiler. It will help you to control the hot water. If your heating system is set up in a multi-zone configuration, you can install more than one thermostat.
This kit will come with a bridge. The bridge is what you will use to plug into your home router. It will allow you to control the system via internet and by using your phone. The only downside is that the Thermostat is not fitted with Wi-Fi. The bridge used has a very weak range. In fact, you may find that you have to purchase Home Plug adaptors to make the connection work. However, my house has solid stone walls, which may be a contributing factor. The choice of Wi-Fi would have been a great addition to this excellent Thermostat.
With regards to installation, this system is easy enough to install on your own. Tado can also get you into contact with a local installer who can do the job for 90. It depends on your level of confidence about installing the device yourself. Personally, I decided to do the installation myself, and I found it to be quite easy due to the goo quality instruction manual.
Tado will hook you up with specific instructions on how to install your device. You have to email them the specific model, of you boiler and thermostat so that they can do this. The process took me about one hour after I received the instructions.
Conclusion
When you are done, follow the instructions on the display to get your system working. The Thermostat offers support for both Android and iOS devices. It comes with a convenient app that gives control over the system.
